Workplace Development: Pride Month, Juneteenth, and Talent Planning

July 1, 2021

Our Human Resources team works incredibly hard every month to provide our employees with the work place environment, resources and support they deserve. June was no different. Take a look at the initiatives and learning opportunities they provided over the past month.

SPARK! Talent Planning

Developing talent is an ongoing process that requires managers and leaders to coach and proactively work with their team members to set effective development goals and keep them engaged. This process begins with Talent Planning and evaluating the team’s performance and potential. This month, we provided resources to support this process, launched a brand new Presentation Skills course, as well as a Pixel Training to support our Big Village Media Solutions team. Through our “Learn for a Cause” LinkedIn Learning path, we recognized Pride month and Juneteenth with a few eLearning resources.

Big Village Connects! Pride and Summer Solstice

For the month of June, the Big Village Connects! Team got our employees together to celebrate Pride and Summer Solstice. To honor Pride month, the team curated weekly communications throughout the month to support the LGBTQ+ community. These communications included lists of LGBTQ+-owned local and online businesses that employees can support, Pride events happening in our employee’s local cities, as well as provided resources to raise awareness to important issues such as LGBTQ+ representation in the media. To kick-off the summer, the team hosted a Summer Trivia Night and a sun salutations yoga session to celebrate the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year!

Be Well: Men’s Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month; we took the month to shine a spotlight on the men in Big Village. Throughout the month we highlighted the importance of routine checkups, eating right, and selfcare. The BeWell team hosted a week of walks challenge to get everyone outside and active to bring awareness to men’s health. To round out the month, we hosted a panel of dads to talk all things health and their experiences with fatherhood.

D&I Celebrating Diversity: LGBTQ and Juneteenth

June was a month filled with Pride, awareness, symbolic acknowledgement, knowledge sharing, and much celebration. The employee led D&I Affinity Group kicked off the month with the LGBTQ themed book selection How it All Blew Up. This was followed by weekly communications highlighting minority owned business, art, film, and civic organizations for volunteering. We wrapped the month with a Juneteenth celebration where employees shared the significance of the bill that makes Juneteenth National Independence Day the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983 and how they planned to celebrate the day off. Big Village continues to BE about diversity and inclusion not just talk about it.
